Hi there folks! Thanks very much to all the people who came to see us at the Carling Academy, and thanks to all the people that voted for us, and thanks to all the people that bought a t-shirt or demo CD. It's all really appreciated!

Anyway, there were some great bands that played there (and some not so great) but most of us didn't actually stay till the end just because it was a Sunday and a lot of folk had work the next day. I was trying to get you all a list of what bands won what because there were prizes for best drummer, best stage presence etc, but Emergenza haven't updated their site in about 3 years... So, we don't even know if we won anything.

What we do know though is our favourite band of the night, Odd Shaped Head, came in first place! That means they'll be playing in the London Astoria on the 5th August, so check them out at //www.myspace.com/oddshapedhead My fav's Chocolate Peanuts LA, but all the songs are awesome!

In other news, Al-bal's away to Philadelphia for about 7 weeks, but we're still practising as a threesome to try and keep the ideas flowing and maybe get some covers on the go. So that's going to be interesting.

I also know that some of you are still looking for some t-shirts, so if you're wanting any please just shout. I'll try and get the designs on here for you all to see when I can.

Anyway, please keep an eye on Myspace and Bebo too folks and leave messages for the squirrelly community, we love your chat! Thanks.

The site was down. Sorry. We've been battling with our provider to get it back up and running, and, as you can see, we finally made it! It's been a few months but we've tried to keep you guys as informed as we could dispite the lack of webspace.

As most of you will know already, we won the second round of Emergenza's Battle of the Bands! We won the band vote and the crowd vote, so we are going through to the ‘North of the UK’ final at the CARLING ACADEMY!

The second round was streched out over several nights with several different locations around britain so we've got bands from all over Scotland and even as far as Newcastle and Manchester playing there - fifteen bands in total lasting eight hours!

It's going to be such a good day.

I realise that 8 hours seems really long, but there are merch stands there and you can come and leave whenever you want. We've already been given an approximate time which is between 6-9.30 so please don't think you have to hang around all day to see us. We'll let you know when we have an exact time, we may not know till the day of the gig, but we'll post everything as it develops so please visit back fairly regular.

Thanks again to all those who have came to see us thus far! We wouldn't have made it without you.

Hiya peeps, we’ve got the date for our next gig. It’s on a Sunday so I hope you can all make it. It’s in the Classic Grand again, but it’s not the same room as last time, we’ve got the much bigger venue room next flight up and it can hold about 6 times the amount of people so it’s going to be a stunning gig. There’s 8 bands playing and we’ve got the spot of honour at the top of the bill, it means we’re on a little before 10 with a max of 20 mins allowed for the set, so trains shouldn’t be an issue at all – if you’re getting the train and want to double check train times for the gig, please vist www.firstscotrail.com for train times. If you’re driving, most parking bays on the street are free at the weekends, which is nice ^^

Please get in contact with us before you come so that we can set tickets aside for you – if you get a ticket it’s only £5, whereas if you pay at the door you need to pay £8, so please drop us a mail at the usual address: chargrilledsquirrels@hotmail.com

This is going to be one of the best gigs of the year, so if you’re coming to see us, this is the one gig you’ll really be able to rock out at!

Thanks for your support!

Thanks to all the people that came to see us tonight and last night, and also a thanks to all those who attempted to see us but couldn't because of the train strike. The effort itself is appreiciated.

On the 6th at the community centre we also recorded a podcast for Reel Time Studios. They're getting a few different bands to record for the podcast so it'll be good to hear the different bands getting interviewed. I'll keep you updated with when that'll be aired.

Also we tied first place at the Emergenza first round! The 2nd round hasn't been arranged yet but It'll be posted here as soon as we have the dates. It was a really fun concert tonight and I'm glad everyone there enjoyed themselves.

Keep checking back for more gigs to come! Thanks again ^^

So dispite the fact that it looks like we've been hiding in a corner, we've actually been working hard on our new songs. We've got a few that are almost done with more on the way. The ideas just keep coming ^^

We've lined up some gigs because we've all been itching to get back out on stage. We've made a lot of progress on the creative side of things, so we're all wanting to get back out there and play some seriously good gigs, get the crowd moving and put on a show that people will enjoy. We probably won't play any of our new songs at the current gigs shown 'cause we're wanting to tighten them right up, so that the first time we play them will be as good as the 100th time we play them - but we'll play them as soon as they're ready, so let us know what you think about them when we do!

Looking forward to seeing you all at the first gigs of the year!

Latest news for 18/12/06 by Gibbons

So, how are you all doing? We've not been updating the site too much, but there hasn't really been much to say really. We don't have any gigs lined up just yet cause we've been really trying to practice and get some new songs written. They're sounding pretty good actually ^^ But that's been our main focus since we've all calmed down and stopped going on holiday lol, and it's working out well, dispite it taking a while. We've really tried to put in the extra time on these songs though so that they'll be that bit different and even better than our previous ones. I hope you think the same once we've recorded them.

The other thing that's sucking up all our time is the re-recording of a couple of our older songs. We tried to get them done before everyone went on holiday, but it just wasn't practical, or if we did attempt it, the recordings wouldn't have been as good and we wouldn't have been happy with it anyway. So, again, I hope the extra time will have paid off.

I'll post the songs as soon as they'll be available and update you all in the meantime with what we've been doing.

Come back and visit soon!

Morgan arrived today with her mum :) So Alan's away to see her just now. David's away to Florida with his girlfriend! They're staying in Disney World, so that's bound to be oodles of fun! And Paul's going away on another holiday to Bulgaria! He literally just told me. It's holiday central down here :)

There isn't really anything else to post I'm afraid... I've started working for Dell, which I'll talk about in my personal blog, but that's really it. We're trying to get some time together to finish the recordings but it's just not feasible right now... We are trying though, and I'll keep you all informed about the progress, but until then you can check us out on bebo - Paul set it up and he said our page is awesome! So check it out.

See you soon!

Latest news for 23/08/06 by Gibbons

Starka wasn't the best gig in the world, but it was not bad since we haven't played in a good while... A really big, serious thanks to the people who came to see us. You were all complimented as being 'dedicated' by the organiser! Although I hope he said that because we didn't start till 11.30 and not because of our playing, lol. (He gave us big compliments, so I don't think so...)

We don't have any other gigs lined up I'm afraid. Because Dave is going to Florida and we still have recording to finish, we won't be able to organise anything for a few weeks, but keep checking! We will be gigging as soon as we can and will be posting the new recordings when they're hot off the press.

Also Morgan Phillips is coming over next month! Hi Morgan! ~Wave~

Latest news for 14/08/06 by Gibbons

Well we're playing in Starka-Motherwell on Friday. Oh yeah! Haven't played there in aaaaages. Soooooo looking forward to it.

Everyone's been on holiday here lately (Mine was awesome, and Alan and Paul say their holidays were awesome too...) - hence the sparse updates - and David's going to Florida at the beginning of September, so apart from some awesome holidays there hasn't been much happening recently. We're still trying to co-ordinate more studio time, but it's hard to find a space amongst the holidays and exams. But we'll get there. The main priority is to play a great gig at Starka, and maybe get a new guestbook...

Have you looked at the Guestbook? Who posts this stuff?

Latest news for 11/07/06 by Gibbons

Alan's back home on the 26th, thank god! I hope he brings me back a present... We're going to get right into it as soon as he comes back, although both me and Paul will be on holiday, but the additional recording doesn't need either of us I think. Actually...we might have some guitars still to do...can't remember if it's Paul's guitar or Alan's guitar though...I'll need to ask! Anyway, look out for more gigs, more songs, more photos - I'll need to try and find some good one's of me, they're soooo rare... - and more other stuff too! We've all had a lot of down-time recently, which has been good and there's still more to go, but we'll all be glad once we start to get back into it again. Get these current songs finished and get some new ones recorded, get some gigs done and get some good practise and creative time. It's good going on holiday, but it's great coming home again too!

Latest news for 28/05/06 by Gibbons

Sorry peeps! I thought that the site had already been updated after the gig in Vertigo, but it hadn't. Sorry. Well despite the news being late, we didn't win at Emergenza's battle of the bands semi-final. But that's okay, 'cause the next round would have been on either the 18th or 25th of June, and Alan would be in America by then, so we weren't that concerned. We weren't sure if we could, or even wanted to, play the gig in the Carling Academy without him anyway. In other news: Alan doesn't have long to go till he finishes his exams and Paul's already finished. Alan's managed to squeeze in some recording time between his last exam and his uber long holiday in Philadelphia. So we'll still need to do some additional recording while he's away, but look forward to some new recordings of a couple of old classics, and we'll start to think about recording some new songs once all the holidays are finished.

Latest news for 24/04/06 by Gibbons

Only one more week till the gig at Vertigo. Last years gig there was excellent, so this years should be too. The stage is huge, and the sound is great; it's a great place for any band to play. We are playing with [A.T.P] again, which is good as you all seemed to enjoy them at Ivory Blacks. For a listing of all the bands playing on the night and the other Emergenza gigs still to come, please vist : http://www.jarmusicgroup.com/un_glasgow.html If you've got any song you particularly want played (although we'll be playing most of them anyway,) then e-mail us and let us know 'cause it helps to know what the crowd wants to make the gig the best it can be. Anyway, see you all on the 3rd (it'll be busy, so try and be early if you can, bye!).

Latest news for 25/03/06 by Gibbons

A big thanks to those who voted for us at Ivory Blacks. We had a really good time and we're glad you all did too. For those who weren't there, we made it through to the next round. There were five bands playing and they let three bands go through, one band goes through as voted for by the other bands and two other bands go through as voted for by the crowd. We got through on the band vote, which is awesome, but even if we didn't, we would have made it through on the crowd vote anyway. Again, a big thanks for all the votes. The next round is in Strathclyde Uni, as soon as we know the date we'll post it to try and give you as much notice as possible.

Also please check out the new Blog system at the top of the page. We're still trying to get the hang of it, so if your favourite Squirrel hasn't posted yet, don't worry, it'll be up soon. Also, a big Birthday shout to Al-Bal, as he was 21 yesterday.

Latest news for 17/02/06 by Gibbons

The Emergenza Battle of the Bands starts next month. Our gig date for the first round is on the 22nd at Ivory Blacks. It's a punk night for all those wondering, Emergenza try to put on genre nights instead of mixed nights so it should be all good all the time. Also thanks to those who seen us at the 13th Note, it was fun and went surprisingly well since we haven't played in a while. We'll be updating a few times before Ivory Blacks, so keep your eyes open.

Here's a bit of fanart from Adam. Thanks big Ads! There's more of Adam's art at http://www.phantomuprising.cjb.net/ and if you have any fanart or cool photos of us then send them in and we'll post them on the site. -

Latest news for 27/01/06 by Gibbons

Well Alan's away to America for ten days, he's due back on Thursday and there's a bus for all the fans who want to meet him at the airport and welcome him back. I spoke to him yesterday and he was saying that he's having great fun in Philly. We all can't wait till he gets back though so we can get our heads down and get our song ideas written and recorded, we haven't done much over the past month because people have had Uni exams but now that it's all past we intend to power it as much as we can, because we know you want more songs and more gigs. So to start it off we're playing at the 13th note on the 12th of Feburary, so if you can make it, come along and hopefully it'll be just as good as the Cathouse. Good luck to all those who had exams too and we'll update again soon.

Here's a pic to tide you over -

Latest news for 22/12/05 by Marshall

The cathouse turned out to be pretty rockin' and in my opinion it's been our best gig in a while. Our last couple of gigs have been a bit shit and its cool to still see people coming to see us, a big thanks and a pat on the back to all you people lol. If anyone has any views on gigs (good points, bad points improvements etc.) then feel free to post something or send an email, it's always good to hear some positive criticism (unless it's saying I'm crap lol). We are thinking of recording some new tracks in late January and also even re-recording a couple of the old songs that could be improved. We aren't too sure what ones yet and again we would be happy to hear what peoples favourite songs are etc, so we know what to improve. Keep checking back for updates on that but for now smoke me a clipper, al be back for lunch.

Latest news for 03/12/05 by Gibbons

Well the Songs section is updated! Quickly run over there and download 'Gum Up The Works' and leave a post in the Guestbook letting us know what you think.

The Cathouse is over 14's BTW, which is great. Over 14's tend to turn out to the best kind of gigs. Tickets are a fiver, available from your local Squirrel (or guestbook or e-mail)!

Latest news for 29/11/05 by Gibbons

Well sorry about the lack of update over the weekend about the Ivory Blacks gig, but I was really busy with, seriously, no free time. The gig was awesome though! There were quite a few people there (thanks for coming along) and dispite Paul and David messing up solos, Alan breaking a string and me throwing drumsticks around (I honestly dropped five or six drumsticks, it was only a half hour set), everybody had great fun, which, of course is the whole point.

The nice guy at Ivory Blacks recorded the set for us so (I've not heard it yet, last in line) the guys were saying that they aren't happy with the singing so we're going to get into the practise rooms and make the singing a priority. Hopefully we'll have it all ironed out for the Cat House (thats right! The Cat House!), which is on the 19th. We're going to make the Biggest and Best gig ever, so grab your friends and family and get as many other people as you can to come with you.

We'll keep you all updated with more about the gig as it develops.

Also, Happy Birthday Lauren!

Latest news for 19/11/05 by Gibbons

Turns out the next gig is in Ivory Blacks! How cool is that!

It's only £5 to get in so please send us a mail or post in the guestbook (or talk or text or whatever) to get tickets. Its over 18's (Sorry. Not our fault.) but its definitely going to be a good gig.

Later!

Latest news for 15/11/05 by Albal

Heey! I finally found out how to update the site thanks to our favourite bongo hittin monkey. Cheers gibbons!

So whats happening with the squirrels? well the four of us have been practicing alot over the past few weeks, n we have some awesome ideas going for 3 new songs :) im excited and cant wait to really get them going. So hopefully we'll have them finished soon. We're really gonna get our teeth into things now and polish up some of our old stuff too. we're talking about recording our first demo again. New Jersey will be better than ever! :)

Also we're playing in glasgow on the 24th november! the promotor hasnt givin us the venue yet but ill find out within the next day or two so check back! Thanks to all you guys who came to the attic :) Soo many things went wrong n it wasnt really anyones fault, just bad luck i guess.

Im gonna update the picures page too with some good ones so keep your eye out for them ;)

See you all soon! x

Latest news for 09/11/05 by Gibbons

The Attic gig could have gone better! There was something wrong with the mixer so it took ages to get a good sound from the amps, the band on before us broke Pauls amp (boo) though he managed to fix it when he got home (yay), but all these things took more and more time off of our playing schedule, which, as it turned out, we had to cut right down to four songs to catch the train. Gutted. You can't win them all I guess. Lets just wait till the next one!

Latest news for 30/09/05 by Gibbons

Strathclyde Park was a great laugh for everyone. We didn't win first place but there were nine bands playing in total and I know a lot of the audience really enjoyed watching us play. A really big thank you to everyone that was there, there were a lot of you and it makes all the difference playing to a great crowd. Thanks. Apart from a great crowd and listening to great bands all night, there were many competitions set up at the arcades, which includes although not limited to, Daytona, House of the Dead and the Dance Machine. We didn't actually have a shot of the dance machine but its always really impressive watching other people (our friends Lauren and Kirsty) get fantastic scores on a seemingly impossible game. But a lot of fun was had and we can't wait till next year so we can take part again.

Latest news for 16/09/05 by Gibbons

Hey there squirrel lovers! The Battle Of The Bands being held at the Bizzare Bar in Strathclyde Park is turning out to be a great, laid-back set of gigs! Everyone there is enjoying all the high quality bands that are playing over the course of the various nights so its great playing to such a great crowd! The final is on the 29th and all the best bands are going to be there doing their best to obtain the grand prize! If you've not already been, come and check it out, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Its on the 29th and costs a fiver.

Latest news for 13/08/05 by Gibbons

Well the 13th Note was a fantastic gig! We played with the fantastic band 'Kicking Buckets', who were, as always, fantastic to see live. Thanks to everyone who came and we'll post the date and location of our next gig as soon as possible.

Rock, Rock On!!!

Latest news for 23/07/05 by Gibbons

The date for our rockin 13th Note gig has been changed to the rockin date of the 12th (of August). Rocktastic! The gig will surely rock the socks (and other items of clothing) off of all the rockin souls there, so make sure you don't miss it, no matter what! Rock on!

Also check out the songs page for the Beta version of 'Hatchback' a song from our third e.p. Its not finished yet, but almost. As soon as all the final adjustments have been made, all three of the songs from our third e.p will be downloadable from you-know-where.

Latest news for 17/07/05 by Gibbons

Oooooooh yes! The website is finished and is being updated often. The songs page contains the 4 songs from our second e.p and 'A Common Story' from our first e.p. The band page is present and correct and the photos will be constantly updated as they come in. Please send us e-mails, sign the guestbook and check out the links. Also vist www.hotsquirrelz.com if you haven't already been. it's Lawboys webcomic, full of hilarity and great communal fun.
